Yvette's conversation with her former Morgan State University political science professor, Dr. Alvin Thornton, is both reminiscent of Historically Black Colleges and Universities' role in leadership development and of the current plight of maintaining the strong legacy of HBCUs. Dr. Alvin Thornton is an educator, political scientist, historian, and social activist who spent 50 years at Howard University teaching and serving in many academic leadership roles. He is the current chair of Prince Georges County Board of Education in Maryland.
